    Trafalgar Square is a public square in Westminster, laid out by John Nash and opened in 1844, named after the naval battle of 1805. Nelson's Column, 52 metres high, stands at its centre between two fountains, and the square is framed by the National Gallery, St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Fourth Plinth with its changing artworks.

Designed by Foster and Partners, Arup and the sculptor Anthony Caro, it opened in June 2000, closed two days later because it swayed, and reopened in 2002 after dampers were fitted.
