Le Brévent is a 2,525-metre summit at the southern end of the Aiguilles Rouges range, facing Mont Blanc across the Chamonix valley. A gondola from the town to Planpraz and a cable car above it, first opened in 1930, reach the top, which looks straight across to the Mont Blanc massif; the Tour du Mont Blanc and GR 5 trails pass nearby.

The Mer de Glace is a valley glacier on the north side of the Mont Blanc massif, about 7.5 km long. From the Montenvers viewpoint at 1,913 m, reached by rack railway from Chamonix, a gondola and stairs lead down to an ice cave dug into the glacier every year since the 19th century, and the Glaciorium explains the glacier's retreat.
