At 2,962 metres, the Zugspitze is Germany's highest mountain, on the border with Austria in the Wetterstein range. Cable cars from Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Eibsee, plus a cogwheel railway, carry visitors to summit platforms and the Münchner Haus hut, with views reaching into four countries on a clear day; Germany's largest glaciers lie just below the peak.
