Stonehenge
monument · AmesburyStonehenge is a prehistoric stone circle on Salisbury Plain, about 3 km west of Amesbury in Wiltshire. It was built in phases from about 3100 BC, and the large sarsen stones were raised between 2600 and 2400 BC. English Heritage runs a visitor centre with an exhibition and reconstructed Neolithic houses, from which visitors go on to the stones.
