  • Römerberg

    Römerberg is the historic central square of Frankfurt's old town, in front of the Römer, the city hall since the 15th century. Long the site of imperial coronations, trade fairs and markets, it remains the venue for the city's Christmas market. The reconstructed, gabled Römer building forms its western side.

    St. Paul's Church is a former Lutheran church in Frankfurt, built between 1789 and 1833 on an oval plan by architect Johann Friedrich Christian Hess. From 1848 to 1849 it housed the Frankfurt National Assembly, Germany's first all-German parliament, making it a symbol of the country's democratic movement. It now hosts exhibitions and events.

    Frankfurt Cathedral is a Gothic Roman Catholic church in the city centre, built mainly in the 14th and 15th centuries on the site of a royal chapel founded in 852. Despite its name it was never an episcopal seat; from 1356 it served as the Holy Roman Empire's election and coronation church. Its tower rises 95 metres.

  • Eiserner Steg

    Eiserner Steg is a steel footbridge across the River Main in Frankfurt, linking the city centre with the Sachsenhausen district. A wrought-iron crossing from 1868 was replaced by the current riveted cantilever bridge in 1911-1912. Blown up at the end of the Second World War, it was rebuilt in 1946 and fully renovated in 1993.

    The Goethe House is the Frankfurt birthplace and childhood home of writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, born here in 1749. Destroyed in an Allied air raid in the Second World War, it was rebuilt afterward and furnished with period pieces from Goethe's time. It stands beside the Deutsches Romantik-Museum, visited on a joint ticket.

    Main Tower is a 200-metre, 56-storey skyscraper in Frankfurt's Innenstadt district, built between 1996 and 1999 as the headquarters of Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen. It is the only Frankfurt skyscraper with a public observation deck, reached near the top of its circular, blue-glass upper section.

    Alte Oper is a concert hall in Frankfurt's Bankenviertel, built in 1880 as the city's opera house and destroyed by bombing in 1944. Rebuilt as a concert venue with a large hall and smaller rooms, it reopened in 1981. The square in front, Opernplatz, still carries the name of its original use.

    The Städel Museum is an art museum on the Museumsufer in Frankfurt, founded in 1817 after a bequest from banker Johann Friedrich Städel. Its collection spans seven centuries, with around 3,100 paintings, 660 sculptures and more than 100,000 drawings and prints, shown in a 19th-century building and later extensions.

    Palmengarten is a 22-hectare botanical garden in Frankfurt's Westend-Süd district, opened in 1871 after being privately financed by architect Heinrich Siesmayer. Taken over by the city in 1931, its glasshouses were rebuilt after wartime damage and restored by 1992. Plants are grouped by origin across open-air and heated houses.

    The Senckenberg Natural History Museum is a natural history museum in Frankfurt, the second-largest of its kind in Germany, run by the Senckenberg Nature Research Society founded in 1817. It moved to its current building on Senckenberganlage in 1907 and today displays 18 reconstructed dinosaurs among its collections.
