Lecce Cathedral, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin, was rebuilt from 1659 by Giuseppe Zimbalo for Bishop Luigi Pappacoda on Piazza del Duomo. Its richer Baroque facade faces the square from the side, framed by a triumphal arch and crowned by a statue of Saint Oronzo, and its five-storey bell tower stands beside the bishop's palace and the seminary.

The Abbey of Santa Maria di Cerrate is a former monastery of Greek-rite Basilian monks in the countryside north of Lecce, founded between the late 11th and early 12th century. Its Romanesque church has a side portico and medieval frescoes; after a pirate raid in 1711 the complex became a farm, and the FAI has run it since 2012.
