The Civic and Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art in Montalcino was formed in 1997 by joining the town's and the diocese's collections in the former convent beside the church of Sant'Agostino. Its twelve rooms hold about 200 works, including a painted crucifix of about 1190 from Sant'Antimo, a Madonna by Simone Martini, saints by Ambrogio Lorenzetti and painted wooden statues.

The Abbey of Sant'Antimo is a former Benedictine monastery near Castelnuovo dell'Abate, about 10 km south of Montalcino. Its Romanesque church was begun around 1118 after a bequest from the Ardengheschi family, while the crypt and the so-called Carolingian chapel survive from an earlier building. A community of Olivetan Benedictine monks has lived there since 2016.
