monument · Rüdesheim am RheinThe Niederwald Monument stands in the forest above Rüdesheim, built between 1871 and 1883 by sculptor Johannes Schilling and architect Karl Weißbach to mark the founding of the German Empire. A 12.5-metre bronze Germania, holding the Imperial Crown and Sword, tops the 38-metre structure, reachable by cable car, chairlift, road or trail.
