The Castle of Silves stands on the highest point of the hill above Silves and dates largely from the Moorish period between the 8th and 13th centuries. Its walls of red Silves sandstone enclose about 12,000 square metres, with eleven towers linked by a 388-metre wall walk. Inside are a large rectangular cistern and the remains of the governors' palace.
Aqualand Algarve is a seasonal water park beside the EN125 road at Alcantarilha, in the municipality of Silves. Its slides include King Cobra, Kamikaze, Banzai and Hydra, alongside a wave pool, a semi-Olympic pool, a slow river and lawns with sun loungers. The park opens in the summer months only.
Zoomarine is a marine theme park in Guia, Albufeira, opened on 3 August 1991 and now covering more than 28 hectares. It combines presentations with dolphins, sea lions and birds, aquariums and animal habitats with water attractions, rides and a 4D cinema, and runs a rehabilitation centre for stranded marine animals.
