Ontdek Werfen

Hohenwerfen Castle stands on a 155 m rock above Werfen in the Salzach valley, about 40 km south of Salzburg. Archbishop Gebhard of Salzburg had it built in 1075–1078 during the Investiture Controversy. Guided tours show its interiors, and its falconry gives daily bird-of-prey flight displays; the castle was a main location of the film Where Eagles Dare.

The Eisriesenwelt is a limestone cave in the Tennengebirge above Werfen, with more than 42 km of known passages. Only the first kilometre is covered in ice, and guided tours lead through this part. The entrance lies at 1,640 m and is reached by footpath and cable car. Anton Posselt described the cave in 1879, and Alexander von Mörk explored it from 1912.
