The Gallery of Fine Arts in Split, founded in 1931, has been housed since 2009 in the former city hospital of 1792, beside the north wall of Diocletian's Palace. Its collection of more than 3,500 works runs from the 14th century to the present, with icons, old masters and Croatian artists such as Vlaho Bukovac, Ivan Meštrović and Emanuel Vidović.

Split City Museum occupies the Papalić Palace, a Gothic-Renaissance town house of the 15th and 16th centuries inside Diocletian's Palace, built around a courtyard with a loggia and an outside staircase. The museum opened here in 1952 and, after restoration, reopened in 1992 with a display tracing the history of Split from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

Founded in 1820, the Split Archaeological Museum is the oldest museum in Croatia. Its neo-Romanesque building by the Viennese architects August Kirstein and Friedrich Ohmann, opened in 1922, shows finds from prehistory to the early Middle Ages, largely from Salona, with Roman inscriptions and sculpture in the arcades around its garden.

The Ivan Meštrović Gallery is the villa that the sculptor Ivan Meštrović designed for himself on the Marjan peninsula and built between 1931 and 1939. Since his donation of 1952 it shows his works in marble, bronze, wood and plaster, drawings and furniture, with sculptures in the garden; the ticket also covers the nearby Crikvine–Kaštilac chapel with his carved wooden panels.
