Lone Pine Cemetery lies on the plateau where Australian troops fought Ottoman forces in the Battle of Lone Pine in August 1915. Kept by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, it was enlarged after the war with graves from smaller cemeteries nearby and holds the Lone Pine Memorial, which names Australian and New Zealand soldiers with no known grave.

The Chunuk Bair New Zealand Memorial is an 18-metre stone obelisk on the summit that New Zealand and British troops held from 8 to 10 August 1915, until an Ottoman counter-attack led by Mustafa Kemal retook it. Unveiled in 1925, it stands beside Chunuk Bair Cemetery, whose panels name about 850 New Zealanders with no known grave, near a statue of Atatürk.
