Vyšehrad is a historic fortress on a rock above the east bank of the Vltava, about 3 km south-east of Prague Castle, probably founded in the 10th century. Within its Baroque ramparts stand the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul, the 11th-century Rotunda of St. Martin and the Vyšehrad Cemetery, where Dvořák, Smetana and Mucha are buried.

Prague Zoo opened in 1931 in the Troja district in the north of the city, on slopes above the Vltava. Its grounds cover about 58 hectares with around 5,000 animals of some 670 species, and it has long bred Przewalski's horses, some of which it has returned to the Mongolian steppe.
