The Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta, called the Duomo of San Gimignano, was consecrated in 1148 on Piazza del Duomo. Its walls are covered with 14th-century frescoes: the Old Testament by Bartolo di Fredi and the New Testament attributed to Lippo Memmi. The Chapel of Santa Fina has frescoes by Domenico Ghirlandaio.

Sant'Agostino is a 13th-century brick church at the northern edge of San Gimignano's old town, the second largest in the town after the Collegiata and still in the hands of the Augustinian order. Its apse is painted with Benozzo Gozzoli's 17-scene fresco cycle of the life of Saint Augustine (1463–1467), and the Chapel of San Bartolo has an altar by Benedetto da Maiano.
