The Civic Museums occupy the Palazzo Comunale, the town hall on Piazza del Duomo beside the Torre Grossa. The Sala di Dante has late 13th-century frescoes of hunts and tournaments and a Maestà painted by Lippo Memmi in 1317; the Pinacoteca upstairs shows Sienese and Florentine panels, including two tondi by Filippino Lippi.

The Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta, called the Duomo of San Gimignano, was consecrated in 1148 on Piazza del Duomo. Its walls are covered with 14th-century frescoes: the Old Testament by Bartolo di Fredi and the New Testament attributed to Lippo Memmi. The Chapel of Santa Fina has frescoes by Domenico Ghirlandaio.

tourist attraction · San Gimignano Piazza della Cisterna is a sloping triangular square in the centre of San Gimignano, paved in brick and named after the underground cistern of 1287, capped by an octagonal travertine well-head added in 1346. Medieval houses and towers surround it, among them the Torre del Diavolo and the twin Ardinghelli towers, and a passage leads to Piazza del Duomo.

Sant'Agostino is a 13th-century brick church at the northern edge of San Gimignano's old town, the second largest in the town after the Collegiata and still in the hands of the Augustinian order. Its apse is painted with Benozzo Gozzoli's 17-scene fresco cycle of the life of Saint Augustine (1463–1467), and the Chapel of San Bartolo has an altar by Benedetto da Maiano.
