bridge · Newcastle upon Tyne The Tyne Bridge is a steel through-arch bridge carrying road traffic over the River Tyne between Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead. Designed by the engineers Mott, Hay and Anderson and built by Dorman Long of Middlesbrough, it was opened by King George V on 10 October 1928. A restoration of the structure is due to be completed for its centenary in 2028.

bridge · Newcastle upon Tyne The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a pedestrian and cycle bridge across the River Tyne between the Gateshead arts quarter and Newcastle's Quayside. Designed by WilkinsonEyre with the engineers Gifford, it opened in 2001 as the first tilting bridge ever built: the deck and arch rotate together to let ships pass, which earned it the nickname 'Blinking Eye Bridge'.
