Gateshead Millennium Bridge

The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a pedestrian and cycle bridge across the River Tyne between the Gateshead arts quarter and Newcastle's Quayside. Designed by WilkinsonEyre with the engineers Gifford, it opened in 2001 as the first tilting bridge ever built: the deck and arch rotate together to let ships pass, which earned it the nickname 'Blinking Eye Bridge'.
