    The Great North Museum: Hancock is a museum of natural history and archaeology on Barras Bridge in Newcastle upon Tyne, housed in a Victorian building opened in 1884. Its galleries cover Ancient Egypt with two mummies, Greek antiquities, Hadrian's Wall and northern wildlife, alongside a T. rex skeleton cast and a planetarium.

    The Laing Art Gallery on New Bridge Street in Newcastle upon Tyne opened in 1904 in a Baroque building with Art Nouveau details by Cackett & Burns Dick, paid for by the wine merchant Alexander Laing. The collection includes paintings by John Martin and William Holman Hunt, watercolours by Turner, Beilby enamelled glass and Newcastle silver.

    Newcastle Cathedral, the Cathedral Church of St Nicholas, is the Church of England cathedral of the Diocese of Newcastle, close to the castle in the city centre. The present church was completed in 1350 on the site of a Norman church and became a cathedral in 1882. Its tower carries a lantern spire built in 1448, which for centuries guided ships on the River Tyne.

    Newcastle Castle is the medieval fortification that gave Newcastle upon Tyne its name, built on the site of the Roman fort of Pons Aelius. Its two surviving parts are the stone keep, built for Henry II between 1172 and 1177, and the Black Gate, added by Henry III in 1247–1250, with a railway viaduct running between them. Visitors can climb to the roof of the keep.

    The Tyne Bridge is a steel through-arch bridge carrying road traffic over the River Tyne between Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead. Designed by the engineers Mott, Hay and Anderson and built by Dorman Long of Middlesbrough, it was opened by King George V on 10 October 1928. A restoration of the structure is due to be completed for its centenary in 2028.

    The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a pedestrian and cycle bridge across the River Tyne between the Gateshead arts quarter and Newcastle's Quayside. Designed by WilkinsonEyre with the engineers Gifford, it opened in 2001 as the first tilting bridge ever built: the deck and arch rotate together to let ships pass, which earned it the nickname 'Blinking Eye Bridge'.

    Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art occupies a converted flour mill, in use from 1950 to 1984, on the south bank of the River Tyne in Gateshead, facing Newcastle's Quayside. Opened in July 2002 to a design by Dominic Williams of Ellis Williams Architects, it shows changing exhibitions with no permanent collection and has viewing platforms over the river.
