    Nationalmuseum is Sweden's museum of art and design, founded in 1792 and housed since 1866 in a building by Friedrich August Stüler on Blasieholmen, facing the Royal Palace across the water. About 5,000 paintings, sculptures and design objects are shown along a chronological route, and the building reopened in 2018 after a five-year renovation.

The collection includes works by Picasso, Dalí, Duchamp, Matisse, Louise Bourgeois and Rauschenberg, and an outdoor sculpture park holds pieces by Calder, Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle.

    Gröna Lund is an amusement park on the waterfront of Djurgården, founded in 1883 by Jacob Schultheis and the oldest in Sweden. On 3.8 hectares it fits more than 30 rides, among them several roller coasters, drop towers, a funhouse and a tunnel of love, and its stages host concerts during the summer season.

  • Hallwyl Museum

    The Hallwyl Museum occupies Hallwyl House at Hamngatan 4, a town house finished in 1898 for Count Walther and Countess Wilhelmina von Hallwyl. The couple left the house and its contents to the Swedish state in 1920 and it opened as a museum in 1938, showing a private home of about 1900 and the countess's 50,000-object collections of paintings, arms, porcelain and silver.

    The Swedish Museum of Performing Arts covers music, theatre, puppetry and dance and has been housed since 1979 in the former Crown Bakery, a 17th-century building on Sibyllegatan next to the Royal Stables and the oldest industrial building in Stockholm. Its collections include more than 6,000 instruments from the early 17th century onward, stage costumes, masks and marionettes.

    The Vasa Museum on Djurgården houses the warship Vasa, which sank in Stockholm harbour on her maiden voyage in 1628 and was raised in 1961. Its permanent exhibition covers Sweden's history of spirits, drinking songs and habits, and a gallery shows works from the Absolut Art Collection, alongside a restaurant.

    Junibacken on Djurgården is a children's attraction devoted to Swedish children's books, above all those of Astrid Lindgren, opened in 1996.     Skansen on Djurgården was opened in 1891 by Artur Hazelius as an open-air museum of rural Swedish life before industrialisation. Farmsteads, a church and town houses moved here from across Sweden stand along wooded paths, with staff in period dress, craft workshops and a zoo of Nordic animals such as elk, bears and wolves.

    The Swedish Army Museum occupies the 18th-century arsenal buildings of Artillerigården in Östermalm, a site used by the artillery since the 17th century. Opened in 1879 as the Artillery Museum, it traces Swedish military history from the Middle Ages to modern neutrality through weapons, uniforms, trophies and life-size scenes of soldiers and civilians.

    Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde on Djurgården was the home of Prince Eugen (1865–1947), painter and art collector, and opened as a museum in 1948 after he left it to the state. Ferdinand Boberg designed the mansion, finished in 1905, and the gallery added in 1913; they hold about 7,000 works, mostly Swedish art, and the park by the water has sculptures and an 18th-century oil mill.

    The Nordic Museum on Djurgården covers Swedish cultural history and everyday life from the 16th century to the present. It was founded by Artur Hazelius, who also created Skansen, and its building by Isak Gustaf Clason was completed in 1907. A 126-metre hall with a large seated statue of Gustav Vasa leads to exhibitions on homes, clothing, festivals and the Sami.

    St. Lambert's Church is a late-Gothic hall church on the north side of the Prinzipalmarkt in Münster, dedicated to Lambert of Maastricht. Three iron cages still hang from its tower, placed there in 1536 to display the bodies of the executed leaders of the Münster Rebellion, among them Jan van Leiden.

    The Erbdrostenhof is a three-wing late Baroque palace on Salzstraße in Münster, built between 1753 and 1757 by architect Johann Conrad Schlaun for Adolf Heidenreich Freiherr Droste zu Vischering, the city's Erbdrost. Today it houses offices of the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe and a Baroque festival hall.

    The Prinzipalmarkt is Münster's historic main market street, lined with gabled merchant houses linked by continuous ground-floor arcades. It runs from St. Lambert's Church in the north to the Stadthausturm in the south, with the Historical City Hall midway along its eastern side. Largely destroyed in World War II, it was rebuilt true to the original from 1947 to 1958.
