About Gyeongju
Gyeongju was the capital of the Silla kingdom for nearly a thousand years, and its temples, tombs and palace sites lie in and around the town. Bulguksa and the Seokguram grotto, on the slopes of Tohamsan east of the centre, hold some of Korea's oldest Buddhist stone work. In town, the grassy royal tombs of Daereungwon stand beside the Cheomseongdae observatory, and Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond face the Gyeongju National Museum. The sites of Hwangnyongsa and Bunhwangsa, the Woljeonggyo bridge and Poseokjeong are nearby, and Yangdong Folk Village lies to the north. KTX trains reach Gyeongju from Seoul and Busan.
