About Penang

Penang's capital, George Town, is a UNESCO World Heritage city of shophouses, clan houses, temples and mosques on Penang Island. Khoo Kongsi, the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion and the Pinang Peranakan Mansion show the wealth of the Chinese merchant families, and Kapitan Keling Mosque and Fort Cornwallis date from the British trading port. Murals and the wooden Clan Jetties line the old town's streets and waterfront. Inland, a funicular climbs Penang Hill, and Kek Lok Si temple stands on the hillside at Air Itam. Entopia and the Tropical Spice Garden are on the north coast. Two days cover the island.
