About Phuket
Phuket is Thailand's largest island, in the Andaman Sea; Phuket Town keeps its Sino-Portuguese old quarter, and Patong is the busiest beach resort. Old Phuket Town's shophouses line Thalang and Dibuk roads, and Wat Chalong is the island's largest temple. The Big Buddha, a white marble statue 45 metres tall, sits on a hilltop between Chalong and Kata, and Promthep Cape at the southern tip looks out over the sea. Patong, on the west coast, has Bangla Road, Muay Thai stadiums and cabaret shows; water parks, zipline parks and elephant sanctuaries lie inland. Roads link the beaches, and most visitors get around by taxi or hired scooter.
