About Wellington
Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, wraps around a harbour at the southern tip of the North Island, with hills rising behind the centre. Te Papa, the national museum, stands on the waterfront, a short walk from the Wellington Museum and City Gallery. The red Cable Car climbs from Lambton Quay to the Botanic Garden and Space Place at Carter Observatory. The Parliament Buildings, with the Beehive, sit near the timber church of Old St Paul's and the Cathedral of St Paul. Zealandia, a fenced sanctuary for native birds, fills a valley west of the centre, and Mount Victoria looks over the city and harbour.
