About Luxor
Luxor, ancient Thebes, keeps the temples of Karnak and Luxor on the Nile's east bank and the royal tombs and temples on the west bank. Karnak is a temple complex built over some two thousand years, joined to Luxor Temple by the Avenue of Sphinxes. Across the river, the Valley of the Kings holds the rock-cut tombs of New Kingdom pharaohs, and the Valley of the Queens, the Tombs of the Nobles and the workers' village of Deir el-Medina lie nearby. The temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, the Ramesseum, Medinet Habu and the Colossi of Memnon line the edge of the west-bank fields.
