About Taichung
Taichung is Taiwan's second-largest city, in the west of the island, with modern museums and theatre, night markets and the mountains to the east. The National Taichung Theater, designed by Toyo Ito, the National Museum of Natural Science and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts are the city's large cultural buildings, and Taichung Park keeps its lake pavilion from 1908. Fengjia Night Market lies by the university in the west, and Rainbow Village is a former military settlement covered in paintings. The Gaomei Wetlands lie on the coast, and the forest areas of Dasyueshan and Basianshan and the lavender gardens of Xinshe are in the mountains.
