About Bangkok
Bangkok is Thailand's capital on the Chao Phraya River, with royal temples in the old town, Chinatown, markets and towers over the modern centre. The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Pho with its reclining Buddha and the Bangkok National Museum lie close together on Rattanakosin Island, and Wat Arun faces them across the river. Yaowarat Road is the heart of Chinatown, Khaosan Road the backpackers' street, and Chatuchak Weekend Market fills a park in the north. King Power Mahanakhon and Baiyoke Tower II have viewing decks, and the Rajadamnern and Lumpinee stadiums stage Muay Thai. River boats, the Skytrain and the metro link most sights.
