Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park

Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, established in 1916 and about 45 km by road south-west of Hilo, protects two active volcanoes, Kīlauea and Mauna Loa. Crater Rim Drive circles Kīlauea's summit caldera and its Halemaʻumaʻu crater, the Chain of Craters Road descends to the sea past old lava flows, and a walk leads through the Nāhuku lava tube. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
