Haleakalā National Park

Haleakalā National Park protects the summit of the volcano that forms east Maui, 3,055 m high and about 35 km south-east of Kahului. From the summit visitors look into a vast eroded depression scattered with red and grey cinder cones, home of the rare Haleakalā silversword. Sunrise over the crater draws many visitors, and the park reaches down to the coast at Kīpahulu.
