Grande-Sauve Abbey
Grande-Sauve Abbey is the ruin of a Benedictine abbey founded in 1079 by Gerald of Sauve-Majeure in the Entre-Deux-Mers, east of Bordeaux, and a stop on the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela. The roofless church, consecrated in 1231, keeps more than 80 carved capitals, beside a 13th-century bell tower and the walls of the monastic buildings.
