Touro Synagogue

Touro Synagogue was built in 1759–1763 for Newport's Sephardic congregation, to designs by Peter Harrison, and is the oldest synagogue building still standing in the United States. In 1790 George Washington wrote his letter on religious liberty to its congregation; guided tours start at the Loeb Visitors Center next door.
