Al Jazirah Al Hamra

Al Jazirah Al Hamra is a former pearling town on what was once a tidal island, about 17 km south-west of Ras Al Khaimah city, left by its inhabitants between 1968 and 1971. Its fort and round watchtower, souq, mosques and coral-stone courtyard houses survive, some of them restored, and the town is on UNESCO's tentative list.
