Mangrove National Park is a protected stand of grey mangroves on the eastern side of Abu Dhabi island, part of the Zayed Protected Areas Network managed by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi. A channel winds through the dense trees, where greater flamingos, western reef herons and crabs live, and visitors explore it from the Eastern Mangroves promenade or by kayak.

Al Maqta Fort is a watchtower on a small rock islet in the channel between Abu Dhabi island and the mainland, beside the Al Maqta Bridge. Built in the late 18th century of stone bound with gypsum, it watched the shallow crossing that caravans used at low tide to reach the island. Visitors see the restored tower from the shore.
