The Pietro Griffo Regional Archaeological Museum stands on the San Nicola hill inside the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento. Opened in 1967 in a building by Franco Minissi that incorporates a former convent, its 17 rooms show finds from Akragas and central southern Sicily, including a telamon from the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Agrigento Ephebe.

The Valley of the Temples at Agrigento holds the remains of ancient Akragas, a Greek city founded in the 6th century BC, on a ridge below the modern town. The archaeological park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, includes seven Doric temples, among them the Temple of Concordia, as well as city walls, necropolises and the Kolymbethra garden.
