Fortress of La Mota

The Fortress of La Mota is the walled hilltop citadel above Alcalá la Real, at about 1,030 m. Its Almohad walls, gates and keep date mainly from the 13th and 14th centuries; within them lie the excavated streets of the old town, the 16th-century Iglesia Mayor Abacial and an interpretation centre on life on the medieval frontier.
