Mayerling Castle

Mayerling Castle is the former hunting lodge in Mayerling, in the Vienna Woods, where Crown Prince Rudolf and Mary Vetsera died on 30 January 1889. Emperor Franz Joseph had it rebuilt as a convent of Discalced Carmelite nuns, who still live there. Visitors see the neo-Gothic church, the restored tea pavilion and an exhibition on Rudolf in the visitor centre.
