Anchorage Museum

The Anchorage Museum in downtown Anchorage, founded in 1968, covers the art, history and science of Alaska and the North. Its mirrored-glass wing of 2009 was designed by David Chipperfield. The Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center shows hundreds of Alaska Native objects on loan from Washington, and the museum also has a planetarium and a hands-on discovery centre.
