Birdoswald Roman Fort
Birdoswald Roman Fort, known to the Romans as Banna, is one of the 16 forts on Hadrian's Wall, near Gilsland about 10 km north-east of Brampton in Cumbria. Built in the 2nd century on a spur above the River Irthing, it keeps its gates, granaries and walls, and the longest continuous stretch of the Wall runs beside it.
