Red Pyramid

The Red Pyramid at Dahshur, some 26 km south of central Cairo, was built for Pharaoh Sneferu around 2600 BC and is considered the first successful smooth-sided pyramid. At about 105 m it is the third-largest pyramid in Egypt, named after the reddish limestone exposed when its white casing was removed. Visitors can climb to the entrance and descend into its corbelled chambers.
