The Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo is the popes' summer residence above Lake Albano, designed by Carlo Maderno for Pope Urban VIII, who first stayed there in 1626. Open to visitors since 2016, it shows the papal private apartment, a gallery of papal portraits and vestments and the Secret Garden; the pope again lives there in summer.
