Mer de Glace

The Mer de Glace is a valley glacier on the north side of the Mont Blanc massif, about 7.5 km long. From the Montenvers viewpoint at 1,913 m, reached by rack railway from Chamonix, a gondola and stairs lead down to an ice cave dug into the glacier every year since the 19th century, and the Glaciorium explains the glacier's retreat.
