Royal Fortress of Chinon
The Royal Fortress of Chinon is a medieval castle on a ridge above the river Vienne, made of three linked castles. Henry II of England favoured it and died there in 1189, and Joan of Arc came here to meet the future Charles VII in 1429. Restored in the early 21st century, it holds a museum with towers, ramparts and royal lodgings to explore.
