Dover Castle
Dover Castle stands on the cliffs above the port of Dover in Kent. Founded in the 11th century, it took its present shape under Henry II, whose great keep was built by Maurice the Engineer, and its grounds also hold a Roman lighthouse. Tunnels dug into the cliff from 1803 served in 1940 as the headquarters for the Dunkirk evacuation.
