Palace of Fontainebleau

The Palace of Fontainebleau, 55 km south-east of Paris, was a royal residence from the 12th century and was enlarged by Francis I, Henry IV and Napoleon I, who took leave of his guard in its horseshoe-staircase courtyard in 1814. The visit covers the Grand Apartments and the Napoleon I museum. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981.
