About Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale lies on Florida's Atlantic coast north of Miami, between a downtown on the New River and a beach on the barrier island. Stranahan House, a 1901 trading post where Seminole families came to trade, stands on the New River downtown, near the Museum of Discovery and Science. Las Olas Boulevard runs past the NSU Art Museum and a stretch of shops, galleries and restaurants, across the Intracoastal Waterway to Fort Lauderdale Beach. Between the beach and the waterway, Bonnet House keeps Frederic Clay Bartlett's furnished rooms and gardens. Flamingo Gardens lies to the west in Davie. A day or two covers the main sights.
