San Jacinto Monument

The San Jacinto Monument is a 567-foot (173 m) Art Deco column on the Houston Ship Channel near La Porte, east of Houston, built in 1936–1939 on the battlefield of San Jacinto, where the Texas Revolution was decided in 1836. A lone star crowns the top. The base holds the San Jacinto Museum of History, and a lift climbs to an observation floor.
