Ahuʻena Heiau

Ahuʻena Heiau is a restored temple platform with thatched houses and carved wooden figures on a point of lava in Kailua Bay, at Kamakahonu. Kamehameha I spent his last years here and died in 1819; months later his son Liholiho broke the ancient kapu system at this site. The temple is seen from the small beach beside it; visitors do not enter the platform.
