The Balaton Museum in Keszthely was founded in 1898 by the Balaton Museum Association and moved into its current Neo-Baroque building, designed by Dénes Györgyi, in 1928. It gathers archaeological, ethnographic, historical and natural-science material from around Lake Balaton, a collection that merged in 1936 with the Darnay Museum of Sümeg.
