Ginkaku-ji

Ginkaku-ji, officially Jishō-ji, is a Zen temple at the foot of the Higashiyama hills in Kyoto. The shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa began it in 1482 as a retirement villa, and it became a temple after his death in 1490. A path leads past the two-storey Kannon-den, called the Silver Pavilion, a raked sand garden and a moss garden on the hillside.
