Thoronet Abbey

Thoronet Abbey is a Cistercian monastery in the wooded hills of the Var, built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries by monks who settled here around 1157. Its church, cloister, chapter house and dormitory are of plain, undecorated stone, and the long echo of the church obliged the monks to sing slowly and together.
