Kylemore Abbey

Kylemore Abbey is a Benedictine monastery on a lakeshore near Letterfrack in Connemara, housed in Kylemore Castle, built from 1867 for Mitchell Henry to designs by James Franklin Fuller. Benedictine nuns who had fled Belgium during the First World War founded the abbey in 1920. Visitors see rooms of the house, the Gothic church and a walled garden laid out in 1870.
